The NASA Assistive Technologies Startup Summit, held on December 5-6, 2024, in Alexandria, Virginia, brought together entrepreneurs, innovators, and industry leaders to explore the commercialization of NASA’s groundbreaking assistive technologies. Hosted by STEMCOMM Ventures in collaboration with NASA’s Technology Transfer Expansion (T2X) program, the summit aimed to leverage space innovations to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities.The two-day event featured keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. Daniel Lockney, NASA’s Technology Transfer Program Executive, delivered the keynote, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to making space-derived technologies accessible for everyday use. “NASA has a long history of finding new, innovative uses for its space and aeronautics technologies,” Lockney noted, highlighting the potential for these innovations to benefit the public.

A notable panel discussion, “The Innovative Journey from Idea to Impact,” featured experts like Deena Lambert, Inclusive Innovation Lead at NASA, who discussed the process of bringing assistive solutions from concept to market. The summit also showcased prototypes developed by students from the New York Institute of Technology’s Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center, demonstrating practical applications of NASA’s intellectual property.
